How to Root Htc One X and Flash a Custom ROM

Htc One X

A big and bright screen, little cute feel buttons and nice simple HTC logo on the top – I call it perfection and so do the people who own a HTC One X. HTC One X is one of the smartest and the most powerful phone in the market. It is a phone that has set a standard for HTC and its competitors when it comes to Android smartphones. With a Quad Core CPU and Super IPS LCD2 Capacitive Touchscreen, this phone surely delivers what it promises. So let us see how can we enhance the power of this smartphone and turn it into a total gaming machine with even faster CPU and gain better control over the rest of the phone (Super-User mode) by Rooting it.

A word of caution: Although super-user mode gives you a lot more control over your phone, there are a few cautions and warnings that you must go through by visiting this page before you proceed further. Luckily, Rooting HTC One X is not as difficult as the early Android Phones by HTC thanks to an unofficial bootloader created by HTC (Surprise Surprise). And although the site says that not all damages incurred by their bootloader can be claimed under warranty (which indirectly means that they take responsibility of a few), I am not so convinced that they will take the responsibility of any damage incurred by this procedure involving their bootloader. All that said, since we have already decided to Root our device, lets get to work!

  • Back Me Up

The first and foremost thing that I always suggest to everyone is to backup all the important data in your phone. This makes sure that even if something goes wrong during the process, you still have your information safe with you. After you have backed up your data, proceed to the next step.

  • Gather Files
  • HTC Files and Folders

Click this link to download all the files you need to Root your HTC One X. Please note that these files are for HTC One X only. If you use them for any other model including HTC One X+, your phone may suffer damage. We will be updating the method to Root HTC One X+ soon.

  • Get Your Bootloader
  • unofficial Bootloader on HTCDev

As I mentioned earlier, HTC is now helping users to Root their phones by providing an unofficial Bootloader on HTCDev. Click here to go to the website and get your bootloader. Start by selecting ‘All Other Supported Models’ from the list on the right and follow the simple on screen instructions to get it working.

  • Unzip The Files

The files we downloaded in the second step for our phone must be unzipped now. Unzip them on your computer at a location where you can locate them when needed. For the sake of simplicity, I always unzip the files I might need immediately right on the desktop.

  • You Will Be A Developer Soon

Connect your phone to the computer using the USB cable. Enter the debugging mode and charge only mood. To switch on the debugging mode navigate to Settings >> Developer >> USB Debugging. For charge only mode, pull down the notification bar and select the Charge Only option from the USB Connection options.

  • The Most Important Part

Now that you have connected your phone to the computer, navigate to the folder on your computer where you had extracted the files. Depending on the operating system (Windows, Linux etc.) you are using, run the appropriate file.

Sit back and grab a cup of coffee while the program does its job. Please note that during the process, the phone might restart a couple of times or more. Don’t panic as this is all normal and the script is doing its work.

  • And we are done!

Was it difficult? Feel free to drop a comment if anything bothers you with the process or any other question you might have before you start rooting.

  • How to Flash a Custom ROM on Root Htc One X

Flashing means installing a new rom on your device. A custom rom changes the look and feel of the phone completely. The user interface is changed drastically!

To start with the flashing process, go to Google and find a custom rom that you would like to install on your HTC. Download the rom on your computer, attach your phone to the computer through USB and transfer it to your phone. After you have the rom on your device, follow the process below:

  1. Boot your phone into recovery mode. To do this, switch off your phone normally but for switching on, press the volume down key and the power key together.
  2. Once in the Boot menu, backup your rom (so that you don’t lose everything if something goes wrong) by selecting Backup and Restore >> Backup.
  3. Now wipe everything off the phone by executing the following three commands: Wipe Data/Factory Reset >> Delete All, Wipe the Cache Partition >> Wipe Cache Partition and Wipe dlvlk cache >> Wipe Cache.
  4. Now select Install from sd card and navigate to the rom on the device. Confirm your action by pressing yes.

You will be shown a success message as soon as the installation is complete. Please note that the phone will be a bit slow on first reboot. This is totally normal as phone is adjusting to the new rom. After a few minutes, it should be smooth and powerful like before!

Information that You Need to Know about Motherboard

Motherboard1

Computer device, or now also commonly known as personal computer (PC), consists of two major parts. The first one is hardware and the second one is software. Hardware is the main part of computer systems which can be touch with your hand, such as monitor, keyboard, mouse, data storage and CPU. Without complete hardware that needs to be installed, your computer would not work properly. Different from hardware, software cannot be touched with your hand. Software could be a symbol, application, programs or idea. Like what has been stated before, computer consists of hardware and software. It means that we cannot use computer without only one of those things. We cannot use computer with only hardware or only software.

Usually, computer hardware consists of 10 main parts such as monitor, motherboard, CPU, RAM, power supply, expansion cards, hard disk drive, optical disk drive, keyboard and mouse. Except monitor, keyboard and mouse, all of the hardware components are located in one place named computer case. And among all of those components, motherboard becomes the most important part inside computer system. Without this component, your computer will not able to operate because motherboard is the place where CPU, RAM and the other peripherals get connected. Motherboard or also known as mainboard is a large rectangular printed circuit board. It is a place where you can find most crucial electronic components which support the computer system, such as memory, CPU and integrated peripherals. Integrated peripherals which can be integrated on the mainboard are disk controllers, integrated sound card, integrated graphics controller, IrDA controller, USB 2.0 controller and fast Ethernet network controller. Each type of motherboard has different specifications and also supports different processors. If you want to make sure your computer can perform better, you should not hesitate to upgrade your motherboard and also the other components.

When it works, motherboard is generally air cooled with heat sinks. If you put the wrong or insufficient cooling tools, it can cause damage to the internal parts of motherboard and it can also lead a crash to the computer system. Mainboard that you can find these days has various sizes depends on which company that produce the mainboard. In laptop or notebook computers, you will generally find a highly integrated motherboard which has smaller size or customize size. That is why the mainboard inside laptop computer is more difficult to upgrade and it cost more expensive when it’s needed to be repair. A little damage of motherboard’s components on the laptop, can lead you to a replacement of the entire motherboard. Besides insufficient cooling, motherboard can also become damaged from the other factors such as accidentally drop the computer case or laptop, electrical surge like lightning storm, temperature fluctuation and improperly manufactured power supply.
